Japanese
We enjoy Japanese cuisine because of its freshness, simplicity, and the complex flavours. But because there
are a number of excellent Japanese restaurants in our area, we don’t prepare a lot of Japanese food at home; the
variety they provide would be hard to duplicate in our own kitchen.
The few that we do have though, we make regularly.

Japanese Salmon
My favourite salmon recipe is the Japanese Salmon in this section. It is easy to
make and has a nice hit of heat that doesn't over-power.
I pair it with coconut sticky rice, snow peas, and sauté yellow pepper. Add a glass of Pinot Noir and
I'm a happy diner.
Shabu-Shabu
Shabu-Shabu is a fun meal to share with company. It consists of thinly sliced raw beef (or shrimp) and
vegetables, and several sauces for dipping. A large fondue pot (we use an electric wok) filled with simmering broth
sits in the middle of the table. Each person selects and cooks their own food on a fondue fork and then chooses
which sauce to dip it in. This makes for a long meal with plenty of interaction and discussion. Of the many
interesting sauces you can choose to serve with this dish, the Mustard Sauce we include is our
must have sauce to serve with it. Another is a simple Aioli of minced garlic in
store-bought mayonnaise. Sometimes a peanut sauce is appropriate and if it is, try the one we included. It’s pretty
special.
