Paprika
This page describes the tool that we have adopted to manage our recipes. We enthusiastically
endorse it and recommend that you consider it for your own recipe collection.
Rationale
A recipe manager, specifically Paprika, has these major features:
- creates a data base repository for all of your recipes in an easy to read, consistent manner;
- allow you to create folders (nested if necessary) where these are kept so that you can organize your
collection;
- contains its own built in browser designed to recognize the formats of all major recipe websites to that
you can very simply download recipes that you find on the web into your own Paprika data base (including
MacMenu recipes);
- allow you to create a shopping list (and not just for food - any away from home activity where you need a
reminder) that is easy to use and super handy;
- create meal plans that link to both the recipes and the shopping list; and
- automatically and quickly syncronizes (via their cloud) your collection between all of the devices
that you have which have Paprika loaded (we use the PC to do original entry and editing, our tablets in
the kitchen to use during cooking, and our smart phones for shopping).
Use with MacMenu
When you find a recpe on MacMenu that you would like in your Paprika, click on the recipe name (in red above the
recipe). You will transfer to a single recipe page for that recipe. If you do this in Paprika with their
Paprika browser, at this point click on the Paprika "Save Recipe" button, edit the recipe as you'd like, and click
"Save". If you found it while scanning MacMenu, copy the URL and paste it into the Paprika browser's address
line, press enter and it will take you to the recipe to downloaded as explained above.
